I don’t think they would get romantically involved in the real world. First of all, they didn’t know each other before they go to the annex. They didn’t like each other for a very long time. They had to talk a lot because they didn’t have any other thing to do. When they had to talk a lot, they started to know each other. First, Peter’s thoughts about Anne had changed. Then, Anne’s thoughts about Peter had changed too. If they were in the real world, they wouldn’t talk that much. So, they wouldn’t know each other better. Their thoughts about each other wouldn’t change. I think they got romantically involved because they had to spend a lot of time together in the annex.
